The Situation of the Railway in Kosovo (Report)

Kosovo stands before one of its greatest infrastructure challenges in the 21st century: The rebuilding of its railway system. Disconnected from its neighbours in a time where rail is proving to be one of the main drivers for emerging economies, Kosovo needs its railway system, shaped by the visions of Yugoslav engineers, to meet contemporary standards. With the help of the EU and its institutions, and its close ties to Albania, some movement has started shaping the next era of the rail sector in Kosovo.

This paper serves as an independent general overview of the state of the railways in Kosovo. Its aims are to examine the potentials of future projects and to serve as a conversation starter on possible improvements to the system.
